What should bathroom fitters charge in 2026?

The right price is not just a day rate. It has to cover your wage, overheads, risk, admin, profit and the jobs that do not go to plan.

Public cost guides show a wide range for bathroom fitting. Checkatrade's 2026 guide lists bathroom fitter day rates around £320-£480 per day, while other guides show different figures by area and job type. That tells you one thing clearly: there is no single correct number.

Start with what the business needs

Do not price only from what the fitter down the road charges. Work backwards from what your business needs to earn.

  • Your target wage.
  • Vehicle, fuel, parking and travel time.
  • Insurance, tools, software, accountant and phone.
  • Unpaid quoting, admin and site visits.
  • Holiday, sickness and quiet weeks.
  • Profit to reinvest in the business.

Day rate is not the same as job price

A day rate can help you understand your minimum. But most customers buy the finished bathroom, not a pile of days. A fixed quote needs to account for the scope, risk and coordination involved.

A like-for-like suite swap is not the same as a full strip-out with layout changes, tiling, floor repair, ventilation, electrics and awkward access.

Build risk into the quote

Bathrooms hide problems. Rotten flooring, bad pipework, damaged walls, poor previous work and missing isolation can all change the job. Your quote should explain what is included and what happens if hidden issues are found.

Charge for the quoting process somewhere

Even if you do not charge a quote fee, quote admin still costs you. Calls, messages, measuring, pricing, supplier checks and PDF writing all take time. If you do five serious quotes a week, that admin can eat a whole evening or more.

If your quotes take two hours and you do ten a month, that is twenty hours of unpaid business time unless your pricing covers it.

Do not race to the bottom

The cheapest quote often comes from someone missing risk, overhead or profit. If you are professional, insured, organised and clear, your quote should explain why the customer is paying for a better experience.
